Parkinson’s disease as a degenerative of central nervous system (CNS) frequently encountered in the middle-aged and elderly, it is mainly characterized by progressive degenerative pathological changes of dopaminergic neurons in substantia nigra of midbrain. But up to the present, its etiology and pathogenesis have remained incompletely elucidated. It is commonly accepted that the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the PD patients is the interacting result of multiple factors. And the neuroprotective therapy targeting dopaminergic neurons has become one important aspect of PD pharmacological prospects in the future.
In the research, we want to understand and study the effects of the neuroprotective effects of important mushrooms/fungi in TCM (Examples are Tricholoma matsutake 松茸、song gen 桑黃、Fomitopsis pinicola 红缘拟层乳菌) on dopaminergic neuron and explore the possible mechanisms.
